OCTOBER 2005 Issue

NBS Mission: " To identify, develop and support athletes of color, who will win international and Olympic winter sports competitions, representing the United States, and increase participation in winter sports"

President's Message

Hello All Seasons,
Hola!! Yes, yes, yes, October is finally here and we are in the final stretch for Huatulco where we shall get our tan, swim, ATV, snorkel, sightsee, horseback ride and drink on. Join us for a Bon Voyage party at the October General meeting.

Club Gathering in Dublin
Once again the people came out for the All Seasons Annual Club Gathering and Northern California Ski Club Softball Challenge. We had a great time. All Seasons A's once again put up a great fight, down by 5 to Black Avalanche with two runs in and the bases loaded, alas it was not meant to be as the batter (not me, I was on 2nd base) struck out. Can you say C-A-S-E-Y???
Black Avalanche moved on to play defending Champs Ebony Ski & Racquet in the Championship game. Now this was a heated battle, home runs, doubles, name calling, rule changes, managers pulling their teams off the field, oh yeah, it was crazy out there. After a small discussion, the game went on without incident (yeah right) and Black Avalanche Ski Club of Oakland took home the BAUER trophy. CONGRATULATIONS!!
I sincerely want to thank Karen Allen, Patsy Cunningham, Debi Dohm (what a great park Debi secured for us), Christina L., Claudette Center, Tosha Owens, Angie Ross and Sherie Hickman for all their help in making this event another success. I especially want to thank Stan the "Grill Man" Williams and Jerode "I'm retired" Lawrence for once again doing all the on-site cooking. You have no idea how much work it is to stand, out in that sun, all day, cooking 100's of pounds of beef, chicken, links, hamburgers, hot dogs and such. I must do something special for these cookaholics.

Winter Carnival '06 The time is now to sign up for and start making payments for Winter Carnival '06 in beautiful South Lake Tahoe. Remember this is a Regional Fundraiser that supports the Region and our youth. Call Angie today, you know you're going, quit messing around and put your money where your mouth is.

Summit '06 Banff, Canada
We have a great group onboard for Summit '06 but we want more, The venue is great and we will ski the Big3. Happy hours, evening entertainment, shopping, 200 person European spa, you name it, we can do it in a week. Call your trip leaders.

Wine Tasting
Yes we will head to Sonoma County to dine, drink fine wines and tour majestic flower laden landscapes with breathtaking views of the Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River Valleys.
Now is the time to train those muscles for the countless days of skiing you will do this winter. Ski Club member Michael Jackson spoke of a safe warm way to improve your skills and get better on the mountain. Endless slope is a portable machine that allows you to put in as many turns in a 1/2 hour as you would all day on the slopes. It teaches you the correct position, how to get on your edges and stay over your skis. Go to www.endlessslope.com and then give MJ a call; he has set up several dates in San Francisco for training and demonstrations.

FIRE PREVENTION MESSAGE
October is Fire Prevention Month. Remember to change your smoke detector batteries when you change your clock.
Pink is in
October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, take care of yourself, get regular checkups and educate others. Purchase stamps and sponsor a run/walker in their quest to help find a cure for this disease, its going to take us all.

Be Safe, Gary President All Seasons Ski Club
